As marijuana legalization
becomes a hot topic in many different states, penalties for distribution and
possession of marijuana remain in most states, including Georgia. In an extreme case, a 42 year old father of three was recently convicted of being part of a
marijuana trafficking ring and sentenced to life in prison.
This man has not murdered
anyone, he has not raped anyone and he was not involved in any violent acts or
crimes. He was family man who lost his job and made a poor decision to get
involved in the drug trade.
Did he work for a
marijuana ring? Yes. Did he already serve time for it? Yes. Does the evidence
of his involvement in a multi-million dollar drug ring justify a life sentence?
You wouldn’t think so, but according to the Federal Court in Texas, his
involvement met the Federal sentencing guidelines for such a sentence.
If you’ve been arrested
for possession of marijuana, either as a misdemeanor or felony, will you be
sentenced to a life in jail? Likely not, but the penalties in Georgia can be
severe. Contact an experienced criminal attorney to get the representation you
